El Mirage / Your care questions

# Who is making my medicine? Trace it beyond the visit.

Ask for the name of the place that actually prepares the medicine and the place that sends it.

FDA, the US medicine review agency, notes that people receiving online care may not know where their medicine was made.

## Make the pharmacy check a separate task

-

### Get the actual pharmacy name.

Ask the service to identify the maker before agreeing to the medicine. Keep that answer with the prescription information.

-

### Ask about the pharmacy’s Arizona permit.

To send medicine into Arizona, an outside pharmacy must hold an Arizona permit and permission from its home state or country, as of October 3, 2026.

-

### Distinguish the pharmacy from the pharmacist.

As of October 3, 2026, Arizona issues pharmacy permits and pharmacist licences; these are separate checks.

-

### Ask who answers medicine questions.

FDA’s online-pharmacy checklist includes access to a licensed pharmacist who can answer questions.

## Use the official state search

FDA’s state-pharmacy page links to each state’s pharmacy board, the office that oversees pharmacies. Follow that link to search the pharmacy’s licence or permit.

Choose Arizona there, then check the pharmacy named by the service.

If the record is unclear, ask the board about the named pharmacy’s permit. A pharmacist’s personal licence is a different record.

A permit covers the pharmacy; it does not settle whether this particular medicine can legally be made to order.

Ask the prescriber and pharmacist why its ingredients are allowed and how it meets the limits on copying ready-made medicines.

## If a larger facility makes the medicine

Some larger makers prepare batches for clinics and hospitals rather than filling only prescriptions with a patient’s name.

Those that choose to register with FDA are called outsourcing facilities. This is a type of batch maker, not an approval of its medicine.

FDA publishes a list of these registered facilities.

As of September 26, 2026, joining that list is voluntary. An entry confirms registration, not FDA approval of the maker or its products.

If a maker claims this registration, look for its name on FDA’s list. If it is absent, ask the maker and FDA about the claim.

A pharmacy making medicine for individual prescriptions may use a different legal route and need not be on that list.

For that pharmacy, use the state permit search. For either kind of maker, ask the pharmacist how the particular medicine meets the rules.

## The name on a label needs checking too

As of September 26, 2026, FDA had found false labels on semaglutide and tirzepatide made to order; the labels gave names of nonexistent pharmacies.

In other cases, a real pharmacy was named even though it had not made the product.

A printed name alone therefore does not establish who made the medicine.
