El Mirage / Your care questions

How can I verify a licence? Follow the person’s name.

Start with the person who will make the care decision. A business name alone is not enough for this check.

A board is the state office that oversees a health profession. Its record shows the person’s licence details.

Keep a note of the name, role and licence details you find.

Check an Arizona clinician’s licence

  1. Get the full name and role.

Ask the service for the clinician’s name, profession and licence or registration details before the visit.

  2. Open the matching board.

Arizona’s Medical Board search covers MDs, meaning medical doctors.

Doctors with DO after their name have a separate Arizona board. Use its Find your DO search rather than the MD search.

Nurse practitioners have additional nursing training to make care decisions. Check both the nursing licence and the certificate for that extra role.

The Nursing Board links to both checks. To prescribe, the nurse also needs permission from that board and must stay within the scope of their training.

Physician assistants, often shortened to PAs, have their own Arizona board and search.

  3. Read the record, not just the search result.

Match the name and professional role. Read the licence status and any published decisions by the board.

  4. Ask about anything that does not match.

For remote care from another state, request the Arizona licence or registration number. Ask the matching board whether it permits this person to see you.

Some clinicians with licences from elsewhere may register for remote care through the Arizona board for their profession, as of October 3, 2026.

They need a qualifying licence without restrictions and must meet rules on past discipline, insurance for care claims, filings, fees and Arizona practice.

If the service names an exception instead, ask the board to confirm that rule applies to your visit.

What a clear record can tell you

A board record can confirm a licence and show public actions over professional conduct; it does not rate care quality.

Arizona’s rules, checked October 6, 2026, limit what a board may show online. Its website is not the full public history of a licence.

For example, certain final board actions may stay on the website for no more than five years. Pending complaints also have disclosure limits.

You can ask the board for extra public records. What it can provide depends on the type of record.

Give the full name and licence number. Ask for available records of earlier complaints and board decisions.

An empty online history does not establish that no earlier complaint or action exists.

Use the record alongside clear answers about the proposed care.

If the role is unclear

Ask the service to spell out the title. Avoid guessing from letters beside a name.

As of October 3, 2026, an Arizona nurse practitioner needs the Nursing Board’s permission to prescribe.

The prescription must fit the patient groups covered by the nurse’s training.

Ask the board whether this nurse’s record includes prescribing permission.

Permission to prescribe does not by itself show that a particular medicine made to order can legally be supplied.

Ask the prescriber and pharmacist why that medicine meets the rules for its ingredients and for copies of ready-made drugs.
